Affordability Counts (lowcost.fiu.edu)

About: FIU Online began an initiative to recognize faculty who were actively making changes to the courses they teach to reduce the cost of course materials to students. This initiative is called Affordability Counts. As part of the Affordability Counts initiative, faculty at the university self-identify as teaching courses that contain course materials that are under $60. This cost is total out-of-pocket expenses for course materials to students.

Online Insider (insider.fiu.edu)

About: Insider is FIU Online’s official news source. The site hosts the latest news, updates and upcoming events for those interested in online learning at Florida International University.

Virtual Reality/360 Degree Videos

About: Virtual Reality or VR, is making a big leap in distance education. It allows students to partake in visual experiences as if they were there themselves. FIU Online has taken advantage of Virtual Reality and has created a few VR tours that students may experience.

3D Scanning/Photogrammetry

About: The FIU Online Studios acquired new hardware and software designed to bring a new way of interacting with objects for those taking fully online courses. By scanning the objects and placing them in a 3D-model player, students are free to spin, zoom and interact with objects as opposed to simply viewing pictures of the object within Blackboard. This interaction provides learners with the freedom to choose how they want to learn about the scanned objects.
